ok well i went racing this weekend at the MIJ downhill events race in north wales at nant g and to start it off friday travelling up took over 9 hours to get there so not the best start to the weekend however arrived at 12 and started putting up the tent in the rain and darkness so we already knew it was going to be a wet track because of how steep the place was but i was very excited to be riding my first race of the season.
saturday practice
everything was going so well on the saturday had a track walk and picked lines and tyre choice in the morning then went at it al day did 6 runs in the day and had most my lines sorted out and i was starting to try and go faster thought the section i was confident on and i had noticed that the best thing to do on the track was just keep flowing do not stop in any corners and get caught so i had lines that i could keep it flowing and they were working out really well.
sunday race time
woke up nice and early after a early night and track walked with Nathan and Reece. we decided on lines that would be off the main line but less cloggy because the track became sticky after the rain had left on friday so down the straights it would catch you and slow you down so i kept them hidden in the practice before my race runs. race runs started up and i was feeling really confident in what i could do and i was trying for podium nothing less however first race run had a over the handlebars in one of the rock shoots were my brake went under the handlebar and i could not get it back into place. this meant i had to pull over and try and smack it into place what did not work so the rest of the track i had no back brake what was the scariest i had ever ridden. no one caught me up tho surprisingly. eventually got down a bit bruised and battered and i silly decided to change my tyres to cut down spikes because i was partially sliding in the boggy mud.
second race run went up still with confidence but come the start i came into one corner to fast and hit a tree and got bounced off the bike then had to jump back on then tried to catch up on the time and had another crash in the same place and had hurt myself quite hard but had to carry on and sprinted the bottom and still improved on my last time by 19 second however i was not happy by the way i rode loss of concentration and i believe i had put pressure on my self but a positive is to take away from the race is to be more relaxed and focus in race runs but my fitness of the winter was right and i know i can push it in my race runs.
sorry for the result however will be looking to improve greatly.
just a couple from the race.
